
Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University (BEUN) Faculty of Science held its 2025–2026 Academic Meeting.

Academic and Administrative Activities of the Faculty of Science Discussed
At the opening of the meeting, Dean Prof. Dr. Kadir Demir delivered a presentation on the activities carried out during the 2024–2025 Academic Year. In his presentation, Prof. Dr. Demir provided detailed information on the planned activities for the 2025–2026 Academic Year, the new academic year roadmap, the number of academic and administrative staff and students, as well as the scientific and social projects and academic studies that have been completed or are currently ongoing within the faculty. He also shared information on the academic projects they aim to implement and the social, cultural, and community-oriented activities planned for students. Concluding his remarks, Prof. Dr. Demir thanked BEUN Rector Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Özölçer for his continuous support for the development of the Faculty of Science.
Following the presentations, the 2025–2026 Academic Meeting of the Faculty of Science continued with BEUN Rector Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Özölçer presenting certificates of appreciation to academicians who stood out with their scientific publications in national and international indexed journals.
Rector Özölçer: “Our Faculty of Science Advances the Scientific Strength of Our University”
After the certificate presentation, BEUN Rector Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Özölçer delivered a general evaluation of the 2024–2025 Academic Year. Wishing the 2025–2026 Academic Year to be auspicious for the university family, Rector Özölçer emphasized that the Faculty of Science’s work in the field of basic sciences makes significant contributions to the university’s scientific strength.
Stating that the Faculty of Science’s entitlement to the “Accessible Program Badge” clearly demonstrates its inclusive and accessible education approach, Rector Özölçer said, “This approach, which is based on equality of opportunity in education, directly aligns with our university’s understanding of social responsibility.”
Rector Özölçer also touched upon the faculty’s strengthened academic staff with international scholars, stating, “The presence of academicians from different countries at our faculty enhances scientific interaction and research quality.” He noted that this process has been further reinforced through activities carried out within the scope of Additional Article 46 of the Higher Education Law No. 2547, emphasizing that BEUN’s position among the universities with the highest number of applications according to the “Additional Article 46 Domestic 2023–2025” data announced by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) represents a significant achievement. Özölçer stated, “Our university’s inclusion in this list is a clear indicator of the importance we attach to our international academic strength and qualified human resources.”
Expressing that the inclusion of Faculty of Science academicians among the world’s most influential scientists is a great source of pride, Rector Özölçer added that the presence of BEUN Faculty of Science academicians on the World’s Most Influential Scientists 2024 list prepared through the collaboration of Elsevier and Stanford University concretely demonstrates the strength achieved by the faculty’s research ecosystem.
Drawing attention to the strategic importance of the newly established Software Development Department as of this year, Rector Özölçer stated, “In the digital transformation process, the importance of software-based disciplines continues to increase. I believe that this department will make significant contributions to our Faculty of Science and our university.”
Rector Özölçer also emphasized the importance of students’ active participation in scientific research, expressing satisfaction with the fact that Faculty of Science students have received support through UNİDES project grants and the TÜBİTAK 2209-A program. He stated, “Instilling a project culture at the undergraduate level is extremely valuable for the training of qualified scientists.” Evaluating the achievement of the Mathematics and Biology Departments within the Faculty of Science in earning the Türkiye Qualifications Framework (TQF) Logo, Rector Özölçer remarked, “This achievement demonstrates that our programs are aligned with national standards and have quality assurance.” Concluding his speech, BEUN Rector Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Özölçer thanked all academic and administrative staff who contributed to the academic and scientific development of the Faculty of Science, stating, “I sincerely believe that our Faculty of Science will continue its journey with strong momentum in the fields of research, projects, and internationalization in the upcoming period.”
