Young BEUN Students Raised Awareness with a Zero Waste Fashion Show

The fashion show event by young BEUN students in collaboration with the Envronmental Problems Application and Research Center at the BEUN Youth Office and Hacı Mevlüt and Hacı Sabahat Hamzaoğlu Kindergarten, drew attention to environmental awareness.

A “Zero Waste Fashion Show” themed “Little Hands, Big Ideas” was organized through the collaboration of the Environmental Problems Application and Research Center of Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University (BEUN) and Hacı Mevlüt and Hacı Sabahat Hamzaoğlu Kindergarten. The event was attended by the Rector of Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University, Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Özölçer; the Deputy Governor of Zonguldak, Halis Hacıismailoğlu, and his spouse Betül Hacıismailoğlu; Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Şenol Hakan Kutoğlu; senate members; the Director of the Environmental Problems Application and Research Center, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Deniz Karaelmas; the Unit Supervisor of Hacı Mevlüt and Hacı Sabahat Hamzaoğlu Kindergarten, Lecturer Yasemin Cengiz Demir; as well as academic and administrative staff, families, and students. Held at the BEUN Farabi Young Office, the event began with an opening speech by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Deniz Karaelmas. In her speech, Karaelmas provided information on the importance and meaning of zero waste and emphasized the necessity of raising greater environmental awareness. She stated that, for a sustainable future, children should be raised with an awareness of environmental responsibility and the importance of recycling from an early age. Karaelmas also underlined that the fashion show, to be performed by kindergarten students, was particularly significant as it featured outfits made from recyclable materials. At the end of her speech, she thanked everyone who contributed to the organization of the event, especially the Rector, Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Özölçer.

Following the opening speech, a zero waste-themed fashion show was held, where kindergarten students presented outfits made from recyclable materials such as cardboard, string, garbage bags, and bottle caps. After the colorful and joyful show, held in a warm and friendly atmosphere, Rector Prof. Dr. Özölçer and Deputy Governor Halis Hacıismailoğlu presented books to the students and took photographs with them.

Expressing his satisfaction with the zero waste-themed fashion show performed by the kindergarten students, Rector Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Özölçer stated:

“As BEUN, we have been carrying out significant work on sustainable development and environmental sustainability for a long time. We consistently support sustainability initiatives in both academic and artistic fields in order to leave a livable world for future generations. I would like to emphasize that we will always support events that raise environmental awareness. In this regard, I would like to thank all our academic and administrative staff, students, and their families who contributed to organizing such a meaningful event to help our children gain this awareness.”
