TÜBİTAK Support to BEUN’s Future Air Measurement Technology Project

TÜBİTAK Support to BEUN’s Future Air Measurement Technology Project

Küçült Yazı Tipi Büyüt

Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University (BEUN) has achieved another success in scientific research and international collaborations. The project, carried out by a faculty member of Department of Electrical-Electronics at BEUN, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gülhan Ustabaş Kaya, was granted support under the 2515-COST European Collaboration Program in Science and Technology by the Scientific and Technological Council of Türkiye (TÜBİTAK).

125E938 numbered COST project accepted within the framework of “International network for harmonization of atmospheric aerosol retrievals from ground based photometers (HARMONIA)-CA21119” program, which aims to strengthen scientific collaborations across Europe, is entitled as “Development of a prototype device for real-time interferometric detection of aerosols in shared living environments using an interferometric method”.

Scientific Innovation and Technological Advance

As part of the project, it is aimed to produce a mobile version of the Lateral Shearing Digital Holography system, whose research and development process has been completed. Thanks to this prototype, aerosol concentration under outer atmosphere, residence time and aerosol optical depth (AOD) will be able to be analyzed in real time. This system will be an alternative to the present photometric measurement techniques and will be able to work day and night non-stop. It is also aimed to introduce a mobile and highly sensitive device which can be used in the fields of industry, environment and medicine.

An Interdisciplinary Initiative

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gülhan Ustabaş Kaya is accompanied by Prof. Dr. Şenol Hakan Kutoğlu from the Department of Surveying Engineering, Prof. Dr. Rahime Seda Tığlı Aydın from the Department of Biomedical Engineering, Prof. Dr. Hakan Kaya from the Department of Electrical-Electronics Engineering, Assoc. Prof. Dr. İshak Özel Tekin from the Department of Immunology and Asst. Prof. Dr. Sefa Kocabaş from the Department of Environmental Engineering, in the project. Research Assistant Duygu Demircan and a doctorate student Fatemeh Ghasempour are also in the project as scholarship owners. This strong team, consisting of researchers from the departments of engineering and medicine, aims to make an innovative contribution to the scientific community through an interdisciplinary point of view.

Rector Özölçer: “Our Univeristy Continues to Be a Pioneer in the International Community with Its Qualified Scientific Initiatives”

In his remarks on the subject, BEUN Rector Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Özölçer stated the following:

“These valuable achievements by the faculty members in scientific production and international projects are a strong sign of qualified research vision in higher education. This project, carried out by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gülhan Ustabaş Kaya, is a significant gain for the scientific and technological progress of our country as well as our university. The development of this innovative system, which will make it possible to measure atmospheric aerosols in real time with high accuracy, will contribute to the fields of environment, health, and engineering and to the competitive scientific capacity of our country. This project with faculty members from various disciplines shows the research capacity and scientific proficiency on the international scale.

With this in mind I would like to thank the President of Council of Higher Education (YÖK) Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar, who leads the visionary development of the higher education system and YÖK community, to the President of TÜBİTAK Prof. Dr. Orhan Aydın, who has always supported us by promoting innovative scientific studies and TÜBİTAK community. I wholeheartedly congratulate Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gülhan Ustabaş Kaya, all academics, and the doctorate student who contributed to the project, and wish them success in their endeavors.”
