
The 2025–2026 Academic Board Meeting of Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University (BEUN) Faculty of Medicine was held with the participation of Rector Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Özölçer.
The meeting, held at the Faculty of Medicine on the İbni Sina Campus, was attended by the Rector of Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University, Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Özölçer; the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Dr. Hande Aydemir; vice deans; and academic staff.
Academic and Administrative Activities at the Faculty of Medicine Were Discussed in Detail
At the opening of the meeting, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Prof. Dr. Hande Aydemir delivered a comprehensive presentation on the activities carried out during the 2024–2025 Academic Year. Prof. Dr. Aydemir shared detailed information on the planned activities for the 2025–2026 Academic Year, the new academic year planning, the numbers of academic and administrative staff and students, as well as the completed and ongoing scientific, social, and academic projects at the faculty. In her presentation, she also addressed the academic projects planned to be implemented and the social, cultural, and community-oriented activities intended for students. Concluding her remarks, Prof. Dr. Aydemir expressed her gratitude to the Rector of Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University, Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Özölçer, for his support for the development of the Faculty of Medicine.
Following the presentation, the 2025–2026 Academic Board Meeting of the Faculty of Medicine continued with the presentation of certificates of appreciation by BEUN Rector Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Özölçer to academicians who distinguished themselves with their scientific publications in national and international indexes.
Rector Özölçer: “Our Faculty of Medicine Has a Vision That Produces, Develops, and Transforms in Healthcare”
After the certificate ceremony, Rector Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Özölçer delivered a general evaluation of the 2024–2025 Academic Year. Wishing the 2025–2026 Academic Year Spring Semester to be auspicious for the university community, Rector Özölçer stated that the qualified education, research, and practice activities carried out by the Faculty of Medicine made significant contributions to the university’s scientific strength and its vision in the field of healthcare. Touching upon the faculty’s achievements in the field of accessibility, Rector Özölçer emphasized that the awarding of the Faculty of Medicine with the “Accessibility Certificate” and the “Accessibility Flag with Logo,” thanks to its inclusive and equitable approach, was a concrete indicator of the university’s understanding of an accessible university.
Drawing attention to the faculty’s project development capacity alongside its academic achievements, Rector Özölçer noted that the noteworthy projects conducted by BEUN Faculty of Medicine academicians being awarded the “Seal of Excellence” by TÜBİTAK and qualifying for investment support clearly demonstrated the faculty’s research strength.
Significant Investments in Educational and Clinical Infrastructure
Stating that the inauguration of the Microsurgery Laboratory (MicroLab) established within the Department of Plastic, Reconstructive, and Aesthetic Surgery at BEUN Faculty of Medicine had elevated hands-on training opportunities in medical education to an advanced level, Rector Özölçer emphasized that such infrastructure investments made substantial contributions to the training of qualified physicians. He also noted that the Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University Training Family Health Center played a significant role both in the provision of primary healthcare services and in family medicine education, adding that vaccination practices, outpatient services, and antenatal follow-ups carried out at the center directly contributed to public health.
Internationalization, Student and Academic Achievements, and Pioneering Practices in Healthcare
Emphasizing that students having the opportunity to complete internships abroad, particularly in well-established hospitals in Germany, constituted an important component of the Faculty of Medicine’s internationalization vision, Rector Özölçer also expressed his satisfaction with students successfully representing the university on international platforms such as IFMSA and with academicians receiving awards for their presentations at scientific platforms.
Rector Özölçer stated that the successful performance of the first-ever endoscopic lumbar disc herniation surgery at BEUN Hospital demonstrated the hospital’s advanced medical infrastructure and expert healthcare staff, adding that this method, which offers greater patient comfort and a shorter recovery period, represented a significant gain for the regional population. He further noted that the re-accreditation of the BEUN Obesity and Diabetes Application and Research Center by the European Association for the Study of Obesity (EASO), maintaining its status as an internationally accredited center until 2028, once again confirmed the university’s international success in the field of healthcare.
In addition, Rector Özölçer stated that the commissioning of a next-generation radiotherapy (linear accelerator) device at the BEUN Hospital Radiation Oncology Clinic advanced the opportunities offered in cancer treatment to a higher level. He also emphasized that the support of Faculty of Medicine students’ projects within the scope of ÜNİDES and the opening of the renovated Anatomy Dissection Laboratory during the 2024–2025 Academic Year made significant contributions to the quality of education.
Concluding his speech, BEUN Rector Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Özölçer expressed his pride in all the achievements of the Faculty of Medicine, ranging from its academic and scientific contributions to the healthcare services provided to the region, and stated his belief that the Faculty of Medicine would continue its strong momentum in healthcare education, scientific research, and practical applications in the coming period. He thanked all academic and administrative staff and wished them continued success in their work.
