The Rector of Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University (BEUN) Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Özölçer attended the Medical and Culture-Art Symposium held with the participation of the First Lady Mrs. Emine Erdoğan.

Mrs. Emine Erdoğan, Minister of Health Kemal Memişoğlu, Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, Deputy Chair of the Presidential Council for Culture and Arts Policies Prof. Dr. İskender Pala, and BEUN Rector Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Özölçer attended the ceremony organized in collaboration with the Presidential Council for Culture and Arts and Ministry of Health under the auspices of the Presidency.

Emine Erdoğan: Technology Becomes Meaningful When Combined with a Human Touch”

Speaking in the ceremony, Emine Erdoğan stated that medicine should not be considered as a technical field, but a field that puts human in the center and should be addressed through an understanding integrated with wisdom and ethics. Expressing her gratitude to the health care professionals, Erdoğan highlighted the significance of a human focused healthcare.

Mrs. Emine Erdoğan stated the following:

“Each approach that enhances the opportunities provided by the technology through a human touch is irreplaceable for the future of medicine and humanity.”

Pointing out that medicine in the modern world is becoming increasingly mechanic, Erdoğan stated that physician-patient relationship is not limited to the exam room. Stating the need of a healthcare approach that centers human psyche, spirituality, and empathy, Erdoğan highlighted the significance of humanities, arts and culture in medical education.

Emine Erdoğan wished that “Medical and Culture-Art Symposium” organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Presidential Council for Culture and Arts Policies has beneficial outcomes. She also stated that this meaningful meeting provides a valuable intellectual atmosphere that brings the scientific background of medicine with cultural memory and artistic point of view.

Rector Özölçer: “We Care About the Vision That Centers Human as BEUN”

In his remarks following the symposium, the Rector of BEUN Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Özölçer stated that this symposium can result in significant developments for the academic community and added that BEUN adopts the vision that centers human and approaches medicine, culture, and arts as a whole.

Stating that such organizations strengthen the interdisciplinary collaborations and bring new perspectives to academic studies, Prof. Dr.  Özölçer extended his gratitude to particularly Mrs. Emine Erdoğan, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Presidential Council for Culture and Arts, and those who contributed to the organization of the symposium.
