The program titled “Choices Shaping the Future” organized by Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University (BEUN) Science Communication Office was held at Esas 67 Burda Mall.
The program held at the Esas 67 Burda Mall, was attended by the Rector of Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Özölçer, academics, students, and many citizens. The program was moderated by the Director of BEUN Career Planning Application and Research Center Assoc. Prof. Dr. Seda Tapdık Terzioğlu while Assst. Prof. Dr. Afşin Kürşat Gazanfer from the Department of Software Development at BEUN Faculty of Science and Counselling and Guidance Specialist Zuhal Eliçora from Zonguldak Açı Educational Institutions served as speakers.
In her opening speech at the program, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Seda Tapdık Terzioğlu emphasized that university and major preference is not just choosing a department, so students should make a decision considering their interests, skills, and career goals. Terzioğlu highlighted the significance of making well informed decisions, discovering appropriate career paths, and bringing university education process together with their career goals.
Asst. Prof. Dr. Afşin Kürşat Gazanfer stated that the fields of software and information gain importance in the business world with the advances in the technology, in his speech. Highlighting that transformation in the fields of artificial intelligence, software development, and digital technologies shape the future of the professions, Gazanfer emphasized the significance of developing themselves with the information and skills for the changing technology world for students. Counselling and Guidance Specialist Zuhal Eliçora Ünlü noted the importance of making use of reliable information sources and taking their interest, skills, and goals into consideration in this process in her speech. Ünlü stated that students should make a decision not just considering the success ratings, but academic opportunities universities provide, career options, and their individualistic characteristics.
Rector Özölçer: “I Wish Success for All Prospective Students”
In his speech in the program, BEUN Rector Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Özölçer wished success for all the prospective students and stated the following:
“Firstly, I would like to wish success for all prospective students. It is of great importance that students make their choices in accordance with their interests, skills, and how happy they will be in their respective fields during the preference period between 29 July- 10 August. One of the most reliable sources in this process is YÖK ATLAS system as the President of Council of Higher Education Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar frequently states. YÖK ATLAS provide students with information both on its website and mobile application. Our students can filter the programs according to their success rate, see which universities have those programs, examine the base points from the previous years, and evaluate the last admitted student’s score.
Stating that it is a significant part of the preference period that students should be informed on the universities, Rector Özölçer advised students to visit the university campuses if have the chance and added that students who do not have that chance can get information from the university websites, social media accounts, and corporate communication units. Universities answer students’ questions via phones, e-mails, and digital communication channels. I advise them to make use of these opportunities. With this in mind, I wholeheartedly wish them success. I hope they can prefer universities where they will reap the rewards of their hard work, be happy in and reach their goals. I hope the results will be beneficial for the students and their families.
