The invention titled “Machine Learning-Supported Depression Detection System,” developed by Asst. Prof. Dr. Hakan Kayış, a faculty member of the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the Faculty of Medicine of Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University (BEUN), has been registered as a utility model by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office (TÜRKPATENT).

Data-Based Approach for Early Detection of Depression

The system, which aims to support the early detection, observation and treatment processes of depression, consists of smart glasses with a camera and microphone and an application integrated into them.

Detailed reports can be prepared through the machine learning algorithms as the system records the natural mimics, voice, and reactions of the patient during the meeting. It is aimed to create an objective and data-based evaluation system that supports the current methods in detecting depression. The decision on the registered utility model by TÜRKPATENT is expected to be published on Official Patent Bulletin.
