Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit Univerity (BEUN) academic staff and students attended the “Support to Palestine, A Call for Solidarity with the Sumud Flotilla” program held at Kilimli Port and condemned the genocide in Gaza.
The mayor of Kilimli, Kamil Altun, the Vice President of BEUN, Prof. Dr. Hakan Bakkal, representatives from the Zonguldak Palestine Solidarity Platform, academic staff, students, representatives from political parties, officials from public institutions and citizens attended the event held at the fishing port in Kilimli. Participants called for international action to stop this human tragedy.
Pointing out the attacks that have been kept as is for more than two years, spokesperson of Zonguldak Palestine Solidarity Platform and Memur-Sen Provincial Representative Kamuran Aşkar stated that:
“It is a shame that the genocide in Gaza is still happening before the eyes of the humanity. Hospitals, schools and houses of worship are being bombarded, and tens of thousands of civilians have lost their lives during these attacks. The attack on the Sumud Flotilla, whose only aim is the humanitarian assistance, is a clear violation of law and human dignity. Today, we are calling out to the world: remaining silent in the face of Israeli brutalityu means abandoning the oppressed. All humanity, especially Islamic countries should take a stand against this atrocity not with words, but with action.”
BEUN Rector Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Özölçer stated the following on the Solidarity Call for Sumud Flotilla and Support for Palestine:
“As Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University, it is impossible for us to remain indifferent to this human tragedy wherever it occurs. The atrocity in Gaza is not just against the people of Palestine but against all humanity. The voice raised here is the voice of shared conscious of humankind. Our university will continue stand by the oppressed on the basis of peace, justice and human rights.
