
“Sociology Days Symposium” hosted by Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University (BEUN) began with an opening program held at Doç. Dr. Ali Arslan Conference Hall on Farabi Campus. Attracting strong interest from academics, researchers, faculty members from different universities, and students, the symposium will feature scientific discussions across various sessions over three days.
The opening ceremony started with a moment of silence and singing of National Anthem for our honored martyrs at Doç. Dr. Ali Arslan Conference Hall. The Head of the BEUN Department of Sociology, Prof. Dr. Vefa Saygın Öğütle gave the opening speech. He wished the symposium will lead to significant contributions and expressed his thanks particularly to the Rector Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Özölçer and those who contributed to the organization.
The Dean of Teoman Duralı Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Prof. Dr. Melih Geniş took the stage and stated that the field of sociology takes on a new significance in an interdisciplinary scientific interaction. Highlighting that the symposium is a scientific meeting in this regard, Prof. Dr. Geniş extended his thanks to particularly the Rector Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Özölçer and those who contributed to the symposium.
Following the speech of Prof. Dr. Geniş, BEUN Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Servet Karasu highlighted the significance of the symposium. In his speech, Prof. Dr. Karasu emphasized that the symposium, which pushes the boundaries of thought, brings the light of science to the young minds, made it possible for young sociologists to make their studies visible as well as share and hold academic discussions. Noting the significance the university places on the scientific production, Karasu expressed his wishes that it will contribute to create a network of academic collaborations and thanked the Rector Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Özölçer and those who contributed to the symposium.
Following the opening speeches, a faculty member of Middle East Technical University, Prof. Dr. Erden Atilla Aytekin gave a presentation titled “Another Fin de Siècle: De-industrialization Process at the End of the 20th Century”.
After the presentation, a commemorative photo was taken. “Sociology Days Symposium” will continue from 25 to 27 Nobember 2025 and bring science world together with various sessions and academic shares.
