A student at Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University (BEUN) Faculty of Sports and National Judoka Tuana Gülenay ranked second in
European Junior Judo Championship winning the silver medal.

The Star and Crescent Flag Flies on the European Podium Thanks to Gülenay

European Junior Judo Championship held in Podgorica, the capital of Montenegro brought young judokas together. Tuana Gülenay, a student at the Department of Coaching at Faculty of Sports and a National Athlete representing Türkiye in women’s -78 kg, ranked second in Europe with her successful performance. Attracting attention with her performance against her strong rivals during the championship, Gülenay firstly defeated Aurora Mengia from Italy. Then she advanced to the final after defeating Lucie Rullier from France and Cinzia Caponetto from Italy.

Facing Zlata Suprunenko from Russia in the finals, National Judoka Tuana Gülenay won the silver medal ranking second in the championship.

 In his remarks on the subject, BEUN Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Ulusoy stated the following:

It is a source of happiness and pride for us that a student at the Faculty of Sports and National Athlete Tuana Gülenay ranked second in European Junior Judo Championship winning the silver medal.

Our student’s significant achievement is one of the best examples of how young people can be successful in the international arena through hard work, discipline, determination, and perseverance. This success reflects the qualified education and support Faculty of Sports provides for its students’ academic and athletic development.

I would like to thank our esteemed Minister of Youth and Sports Dr. Osman Aşkın Bak and its wider community for their valuable contribution to the international success of young athletes and development of sports. I wholeheartedly thank the President of Council of Higher Education Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar and its dedicated staff or their supporting professionals in the field of sports. I would also like to thank the President of the Turkish Judo Federation Sezer Huysuz, the Federation, and the coaches of the national team for their contribution to the national athletes and their efforts to strengthen Turkish Judo in the international arena. Also, I extend my thanks to the esteemed academics and coaches of Faculty of Sports, who contributed to this significant success. I wholeheartedly congratulate the National Athlete and our valuable student Tuana Gülenay and wish her continuous success.
