
The Rector of Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University (BEUN) Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Özölçer paid a visit to the house Prof. Dr. Ş. Teoman Duralı, one of the significant names of the Turkish intellectual world, spent his childhood years. The visit was held as part of the “Teoman Duralı Philosophy- Science House and Museum Project” in the house allocated to the university by a Presidencial Decree.
Examining the house, in Kuzyaka neighborhood in Kilimli district, which preserves the memory of Duralı, Rector Özölçer made evaluations on the project process on the site. Çatalağzı Mayor Yavuz Palabaş accompanied Rector Özölçer. During the visit, it was emphasized that the house is aimed to be organized as a center that will lead the intellectual, thought, and culture life as well as being renovated.
Loyalty to the Memory of a Philosopher: A Journey from a Place to Meaning
It is expected to contribute to the cultural and intellectual history of Zonguldak through the initiatives carried out to transform Teoman Duralı’s childhood home into a living center which reflects his intellectual world. The house is planned to be strengthened as a multidimensional structure which will include a memory place, digital archive space, and scientific activities.
With the Teoman Duralı Philosophy-Science House and Museum Project, it was emphasized that a development process will begin in Çatalağzı, Kilimli and Zonguldak while the project will contribute to the cultural and intellectual life.
Rector Özölçer: “We will preserve this valuable heritage true to its original form”
In his remarks on the visit, Rector Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Özölçer emphasized that Prof. Dr. Teoman Duralı was not just a scholar, but an intellectual and stated:
“We are here today to examine this valuable place, which was allocated to our university with the approval of the President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. This house, where Prof. Dr. Ş. Teoman Duralı spent his childhood years, is the holder of a deep intellectual heritage as well as a memory. As university, it is our aim to preserve this valuable trust true to its form and transform his intellectual world into a center for the future generations.”
Özölçer stated that the initiatives are not just a renovation process but a part of a vision that will provide permanent contributions to the intellectual world of Türkiye.

It is aimed to provide Zonguldak with an identity that stands out in the field of science and philosophy with the Teoman Duralı Philosophy-Science House and Museum Project, while the visit is expected to crate a momentum for the progress of the project. In this respect, it is not just an example of loyalty but a cultural bridge that lies from past to present.
