
The Rector of Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit Univrsity (BEUN) Prof. Dr. Ahmet Ulusoy attended the official ceremony held at Zonguldak on the 104th anniversary of August 30 Victory Day.
The ceremony held in front of the Zonguldak Governorate was attended by Zonguldak Governor Osman Hacıbektaşoğlu, Zonguldak AK Party Member of Parliament Muammer Avcı, Yeni Party Member of Parliament Eylem Ertuğ Ertuğrul, Zonguldak Mayor Tahsin Erdem, BEUN Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Ulusoy, city dignitaries, representatives of political parties, and citizens.
The Pride of August 30 in Zonguldak
Beginning with a moment of silence for the revered martyrs and singing of the National Anthem, the ceremony continued with the laying of a wreath at the Atatürk Monument. Following the ceremony in front of the Governorate, Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Ulusoy attended the congratulatory ceremony held at the Governor’s Office. After the congratulatory ceremony, the program continued in front of the Governor’s Office Building and BKM. During the program, Zonguldak Governor Osman Hacıbektaşoğlu, Garrison Commander of Zonguldak, and Zonguldak Mayor Tahsin Erdem greeted the participants. The Turkish flag was hoisted following the moment of silence and singing of the National Anthem.
After the recitation of the President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s message for the August 30 Victory Day, First Lieutenant (Navy) Muhammed Demir gave a speech on the significance of the day.
Poem Recitation, Folklore Performances, and Procession Were Widely Appreciated
During the ceremony, poems on the significance of August 30 Victory Day were recited and folklore dances were performed. Folklore dances representing the traditional culture were widely appreciated by the citizens. following the dances, Zonguldak Governor Osman Hacıbektaşoğlu was presented with a Turkish flag by the athletes of Zonguldak Directorate of Youth and Sports. Athletes were presented with their awards during the awards ceremony.
Procession representing the spirit of unity and solidarity took place in the program. During the procession on Gazipaşa Street, military officers, police officers, students, and official vehicles greeted the people of Zonguldak. The procession including the mine workers, the symbol of Zonguldak, attracted great attention.
Rector Ulusoy: “August 30 Is a Sacred Day When the War of Independence Is Crowned with Victory”
In his remarks on the ceremony, Rector Ulusoy stated the following:
“August 30 is a glorious victory through which our noble nation declared to the entire world that it would never accept subjugation by any power and would never relinquish its independence and freedom, and through which our determination for independence was inscribed in history in golden letters.
On this meaningful day, we are deeply pleased to share together the pride and enthusiasm of this great victory, which has become an integral part of our nation’s collective memory. With these thoughts, I would like to express my gratitude to all those who contributed to the organization of the ceremonies, foremost our esteemed Governor, Mr. Osman Hacıbektaşoğlu, our esteemed Members of Parliament, and all institutions and organizations that contributed to the program.
I extend my heartfelt congratulations on the 30 August Victory Day to our nation, our University family, and the people of Zonguldak.
I respectfully commemorate with mercy and gratitude all our revered martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the independence of our homeland and the survival of our nation, foremost Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of our Republic, and his heroic comrades-in-arms, and I express my eternal gratitude to our heroic veterans.”
