The Rector of Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University (BEUN) Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Özölçer received the national athlete and a student of BEUN Faculty of Sports Sude Nur Basancı, who made Türkiye proud by becoming the world champion in the FISU World University Combat Sports Championship.

During the organization, where successful athletes competed from various universities between 8-13 June 2026, competing in the Muaythai ring, Sude Nur Basancı won the gold medal defeating her strong opponents in the championship.

During the visit held at the Rector’s office following her historic success on the international arena, Rector Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Özölçer received information on her success journey and championship. Rector Prof. Dr. Özölçer congratulated Basancı on her world championship success and high performance and presented her with a special plaque with School of Mining Engineering and year 1924 on it symbolizing the foundation of Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University.

Rector Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Özölçer stated the following in his talk during the visit:

I wholeheartedly congratulate our beloved student Sude Nur Basancı, who made our university and country proud on the international platform. Being successful in world championship requires effort, discipline, and determination. Sude Nur’s previous rankings in world, Europe, and Türkiye championships reflect this determination, faith, and hard work.

As Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University we care about raising our students in sports, cultural, and social fields as well as their academic success. Sude Nur Basancı became a source of pride with her gold medal for our university and our country. I congratulate our beloved student, her valuable caches, esteemed members of Faculty of Sports, and those who contributed to this success and wish her continuous success in her sports career and her academic life.”
