Rector Özölçer Hosted the Monitoring Commission Established for Field Studies aimed at Romani Citizens

Rector of Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University (BEUN), Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Özölçer met the monitoring commission consisting of Zonguldak Provincial Director of Family and Social Services, Mehmet Türkmen Köse and representatives from Ministry of Labor and Social Security, Ministry of Youth and Sports, The Human Rights and Equality Institution of Türkiye at the Guest House.

Rector Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Özölçer received information in the meeting about the field studies to be carried out in Zonguldak and Bolu between 24 – 27 November 2025. As part of the studies, services provided by public institutions in the areas where mainly Romani citizens reside will be observed and current situation will be evaluated after talking to relevant institution representatives, non-governmental organizations, and citizens.

Rector Özölçer: “Universities are the Strongest Stakeholders of Inıtıatives That Touch Every Segment of Society”

In his remarks regarding the meeting, the Rector of BEUN, Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Özölçer stated the following:

“It is of great importance for us to observe the living conditions, social and cultural values of Romani citizens on site. Universities are strong stakeholders of such studies with their scientific background, research capacity, and mission to serve the public. I consider the field study, which will contribute to the problem-solving process for the needs of our Romani citizens, to be of great value.”

At the end of the meeting, Rector Özölçer presented the commission with the book titled “2nd Workshop on Understanding the Romani Citizens: Report and Articles”. The meeting concluded with a commemorative photo.
