Ramadan Talk at Science Cafe: A Journey from Patience to Gratitude

Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University (BEUN) hosted a meaningful event as part of its “Science Café” meetings aimed at increasing public awareness. Organized by the BEUN Science Communication Office, the “5 Questions 5 Answers Science Talks” was held at Farabi Camii under the title “Ramadan: A Journey from Patience to Gratitude” and attracted significant interest from participants.

Carried out by Science Communication Office, which was established in line with the decision of Higher Education Council (YÖK), and initiatives of BEUN Rector Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Özölçer, the program provided comprehensive information on the meaning of Ramadan to the audience.

BEUN Academics Discussed the Meaning and Significance of Ramadan

The program held at Farabi Camii on Farabi Campus was moderated by the BEUN Science Communication Office representative Asst. Prof. Dr. Melek Toparlak Şahin. The Director of BEUN Civilization Studies and Values Education Application and Research Center (MEDEM) Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nuran Çetin and academic member of BEUN Faculty of Theology Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ali Soylu served as speakers during the program.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ali Soylu talked about the basic principles of İslam and the meaning of Ramadan. Providing detailed information on the fact that fasting is compulsory, he stated that Ramadan strengthens the humane virtues such as patience and gratitude. The effect of Ramadan on the social and individual lives was also discussed.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nuran Çetin talked about the reason why MEDEM was established, introduced the initiatives of the center and emphasized the role of the center in the society. She discussed the historical and cultural significance of Ramadan as well as its place in human life. Çetin stated that Ramadan is not just a month to pray but a sacred period where the solidarity and sharing spirit is strengthened.

The audience had the chance to enhance their knowledge on the topic and their social awareness. The event stood out as an activity that brings academic knowledge and everyday life together while raising awareness and enabling learning.

2026 Ramadan Theme: “Ramadan, Mosque, and Life”

During the talk, the theme “Ramadan, Mosque, and Life” determined by the Presidency of Religious Affairs was also discussed.

Wide Participation from People of Zonguldak and Students

At the end of the program, the questions were answered by academics. The speakers informed the audience on topics such as Ramadan, the meaning of fasting and praying, and social responsibilities. BEUN representatives and speakers expressed their gratitude to the President of Council of Higher Education Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar and the Rector of Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Özölçer for the organization of this event.
