Hosted by Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University (BEUN) “Retrograde Intrarenal Surgery Practical Training Course (Flexible Lazer Surgery Training for Kidney Stones), which addressed modern and up-to-date surgical approaches in the field of urology, was successfully completed with the strong participation of academics and physicians.
The program held at BEUN Hospital Şebnem Kargı Conference Hall, in cooperation with Society of Urological Surgery, was attended by the Rector of Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Özölçer, the Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Bekir Hakan Bakkal, the Dean of Faculty of Medicine Prof. Dr. Hande Aydemir, the Physician Chief of the BEUN Hospital Prof. Dr. Burak Bahadır, BEUN faculty member and Head of the Western Black Sea Region Branch of Society of Urological Surgery Asst. Prof. Dr. Engin Denizhan Demirkıran, academic staff and physicians. Consisting of theoretical presentations and hands-on training, the course brought together experts and trainees.
The main objective of the program was to increase the participants’ level of knowledge on the Retrograde Intrarenal Surgery, strengthen their mastery in surgical procedures, and provide them with a safe clinical approach in the management of complications. Participants had the chance to do surgical practice on phantom models during the training and had the chance to learn the intricacies of the procedure carried out by practitioners.

In his opening remarks, the Rector of Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Özölçer stated:

Our university has a strong position in the region that improves the quality of health services with its Hospital and Faculty of Medicine.
With the innovative approaches at our hospital, we contribute to the health infrastructure of our country. This training program is a concrete example of our vision for health. This training aims to improve the professional knowledge and experience of our physicians and provides an opportunity for the participants to develop themselves. I would like to wholeheartedly thank all academics, educators, and health professionals who contributed to the organization of this training. I wish success to all participants who made this course meaningful with their willingness to learn.”

Up-to-Date Presentations from Experts
In the training, theoretical and practical presentations were delivered by Prof. Dr. Adnan Gücük from Bolu Cağsu Hospital, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dursun Baba from Düzce University Faculty of Medicine, Asst. Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Alperen Yıldız from Bolu Abant İzzet Baysal University Faculty of Medicine, Asst. Prof. Dr. Engin Denizhan Demirkıran and Asst. Prof. Dr. Yavuz Mert Aydın from BEUN Faculty of Medicine, MD, Surgeon Okan Yavuzalp from Karadeniz Ereğli Echomar Hospital. As part of the training, comprehensive presentations titled “Laser Physics and Technology: the Effect of Different Laser Energy Levels on the Tissue and the Stone”, “Instrumentation: Approaches on the Use, Maintenance, and Stabilisation of Flexable Urethrescope”, “Surgical Strategies: Access Techniques, Positioning and Basketing Technique according to the Stone”, and “Safe Surgery: Renal Pelvic Pressure Management and Postoperative Follow-up” were delivered.
Program Concluded with Hands-on Training and Presentation of Certificates
Following the theoretical presentations, the participants attended the practice part and had the opportunity to practice the techniques taught within the flexible laser surgery training. The program concluded with the presentation of certificate of participation.
