The opening ceremony of the “Mathematical Modeling, Analysis and Simulation” (MMAS’26) Workshop, organized by the Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences and the Department of Mathematics of the Faculty of Science at Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University, was held.

The opening ceremony, held at the Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ali Arslan Conference Hall, was attended by BEUN Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Şenol Hakan Kutoğlu, Director of the Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences Prof. Dr. Fikret Gölgeleyen, Prof. Dr. Marat Akhmet from Middle East Technical University, Senate members, academics, and students.

The ceremony began with a musical performance by students from the BEUN State Conservatory and continued with opening speeches. Delivering the opening speech of the workshop, Director of the Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences, Prof. Dr. Fikret Gölgeleyen, spoke about several recent developments in the process of mathematical modeling and analysis. In his speech, Prof. Dr. Gölgeleyen stated that BEUN has been carrying out significant work in these fields and that the scientific research conducted in applied mathematics has made important contributions at both the national and international levels. He also expressed his gratitude to BEUN Rector Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Özölçer for all these contributions.

Following Prof. Dr. Fikret Gölgeleyen, Prof. Dr. Marat Akhmet from Middle East Technical University took the podium to deliver his opening remarks. Expressing his pleasure at being at BEUN, he thanked Rector Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Özölçer, all participants who had come from various countries to contribute to the workshop, as well as the university’s academics and administrators.

After Prof. Dr. Akhmet’s speech, Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Şenol Hakan Kutoğlu took the podium to deliver the workshop’s opening address. He stated that mathematics has always occupied a central position as a fundamental discipline underlying scientific fields and developments. In addition, Prof. Dr. Kutoğlu presented various examples from the history of science to emphasize the importance of a strong theoretical foundation in contemporary applied sciences, explaining the leading role of mathematics to the audience. He noted that BEUN places great importance on mathematics, particularly in the fields of natural sciences and engineering, and extended his thanks to all members of the organizing committee and academics who contributed to the workshop.

Following the completion of the opening speeches, certificates of appreciation were presented to the invited speakers who contributed to the workshop, which brought together distinguished scientists from different countries around the world. During the workshop, the invited speakers shared their current research with participants in the fields of mathematical modeling, differential equations, inverse problems, fluid–structure interaction, artificial intelligence, and applied mathematics.

The opening ceremony of the “Mathematical Modeling, Analysis and Simulation (MMAS’25) Workshop,” organized by the Department of Mathematics under the Faculty of Science and Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences at BEUN, concluded with a commemorative group photograph.
