The invention titled “Under-Vehicle Shovel-Based Mud Cleaning Mechanism,” developed by Prof. Dr. Yusuf Aytaç Onur from the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University (BEUN) and Faculty of Engineering students, has been approved for patent registration by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office (TÜRKPATENT).

Self-Recovery Capability for Vehicles in Challenging Terrain Conditions

The invention developed by Prof. Dr. Yusuf Aytaç Onur and Engineering Faculty students Almina Göktaş, Damla Yıldırım, İrem Önder, Caner Umul, Hayri Can Aslan, and Alzamin Karımlı consists of a special mechanism that can be mounted underneath vehicles and a set of systems that controls this mechanism, designed to enable vehicles stuck in mud and similar challenging terrain conditions to regain their ability to move.

There is a movable arm mechanism consisting of shovels and mechanical arms at the core of the system. Working together with the hydraulic system, this structure is activated when the vehicle becomes stuck in the ground, supporting the vehicle in freeing itself and moving forward. Designed as an integrated structure embedded underneath the vehicle, the system incorporates not only a mechanical movement mechanism but also a unit containing a hydraulic system, as well as safety and automation systems. In this way, the system aims to reduce the loss of mobility experienced by vehicles, particularly on muddy and similar surfaces, and to enable the recovery process to be carried out through the systems installed on the vehicle.

Rector Ulusoy: “Our Greatest Goal Is for Our Students to Graduate as Engineers Who Create and Add Value to Society”

In his remarks on the matter, BEUN Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Ulusoy stated:

“I sincerely congratulate Prof. Dr. Yusuf Aytaç Onur and our Engineering Faculty students who contributed to this work on the invention titled ‘Under-Vehicle Shovel-Based Mud Cleaning Mechanism,’ which was deemed eligible for patent registration by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office (TÜRKPATENT).

Achievements of this kind, which begin with the emergence of an idea, mature through the stages of research, design, and development, and are ultimately crowned by the patent process, are of great importance. The fact that our students conduct research under the guidance of our academics, develop their ideas, design and produce them, and protect the innovative ideas they create through industrial property rights while continuing their higher education is one of the finest examples of the research-oriented and innovative university approach that we have adopted.

Indeed, through the TÜRKPATENT Industrial Property Consultancy Unit established within our University, we provide our researchers with more effective support throughout patent, utility model, and industrial property processes. Protecting the original ideas developed by our academics and students and contributing them to our country’s scientific and technological knowledge is of great importance to us. I sincerely thank our Industrial Property Consultancy Unit Coordinator, Prof. Dr. Şenay Saraç, for her valuable contributions to our researchers throughout these processes.

I would like to express my gratitude to our Minister of Industry and Technology, Mr. Mehmet Fatih Kacır, and the esteemed members of the Ministry of Industry and Technology for their vision and valuable support in strengthening the research, development, innovation, and intellectual property ecosystem in our country. I would also like to thank the President of the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office, Prof. Dr. M. Zeki Durak, and the TÜRKPATENT family for their valuable efforts to protect inventions, encourage innovative ideas, and develop an industrial property culture in our country.

As Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University, we will continue our commitment to supporting projects that bring together the qualified scientific knowledge of our academics and the innovative perspectives of our students.”
