Great Success from Judokas from BEUN in Türkiye Championship

Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University (BEUN) Faculty of Sport Sciences students made BEUN proud achieving significant success at Spor Toto Seniors Türkiye Judo Championship, held in Kocaeli on February 21-22, 2026.


In the championship which brought together a total of 693 athletes from 52 cities-376 male and 317 female- Burak İsmail Şengür, a student of Department of Coaching at the Faculty of Sports, ranked 2nd in Türkiye men’s 73 kg category while Hatice Vandemir ranked 3rd in Türkiye women’s 70 kg category. Ahmet Burak Çuhadar in men’s 81 kg and Berat Hıdır in men’s 100+ kg category ranked 3rd in the championship.

These rankings achieved in this highly competitive organization demonstrated BEUN’s steady upward momentum in sports.

In his remarks on the topic, BEUN Rector Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Özölçer emphasized his pleasure for the students’ achievements and stated the following:

“I wholeheartedly congratulate our esteemed students who successfully represented BEUN in such a significant and highly participated organization. These rankings achieved in Spor Toto Seniors Türkiye Judo Championship are a sign of determination, hard work and a strong team spirit.

As Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University, we consider supporting our students in the fields of sports, culture, and arts along with their academic development as our main responsibility. The experienced and well-developed academic staff, strong physical infrastructure and qualified educational programs of our university contribute to the success of our students in such international competitions.

With these in mind, I would like to extend my gratitude to the Minister of Youth and Sports Dr. Osman Aşkın Bak for his continuous support to the young athletes and the Ministry of Youth and Sports community as well as the President of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar for his support to the development of universities in sports and YÖK community. I congratulate our students who achieved significant success in the Championship, their trainers and academics who contributed to this success and I believe they will achieve more with the same determination in the future competitions.”
