Golden Victory From Gülenay, National Judoka from BEUN

Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University (BEUN) has achieved another success in international sports competitions. A first-year student in the Department of Coaching Education at the Faculty of Sport Sciences and a national judoka, Tuana Gülenay became the European Champion in Sarajevo Senior European Cup 2026, organized in the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Gülenay won the gold medal by outperforming all her opponents in women’s -78kg category.

Gülenay Made it to the Top in Europe

Held in Bosnia and Herzegovina on 30-31 May 2026 and considered as a significant organization of European Judo community, Sarajevo Seninor European Cup 2026 witnessed a big competition with the participation of almost 300 athletes from 21 countries. Competing in the organization that hosted top athletes from various European Countries, BEUN student and a national athlete Tuana Gülenay won the gold medal completing the tournament with a successful performance. Gülenay made both Türkiye and Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University proud with her performance.

In his remarks on the subject, Rector Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Özölçer stated the following:

“It is a source of happiness and pride for us that a first-year student in the Department of Coaching Education at the Faculty of Sports and a national judoka Tuana Gülenay won the gold medal in Sarajevo Senior European Cup 2026 and became the European Champion. I wholeheartedly congratulate our student who represented our country and university in such a significant organization on the international arena. This achievement is an example of determination, discipline, and faith. Also, it is a natural outcome of the value we attach to sports and athletes as well as the support we provide for our students in their academic life and sports.

As Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University, we consider the success of our students in the fields of science, arts, culture, and sports as well as in their academic lives. Thus, the success our students achieve in such significant organizations thanks to the experienced academic staff, strong infrastructure, and sports-friendly approach pleases us. In this respect, the gold medal Tuana won in Europe reflects the steady success of our university in the field of sports and strong sports culture. I hope the success of our valuable students inspires all students, especially athletes.
