A student at Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University (BEUN) Department of Coaching Education at Faculty of Sports and National Judoka Tuana Gülenay won the gold medal in woman’s -78 kg category at 20th Mediterranean Games, held in Taranto, Italy and took our crescent and star flag to the top.
Representing Türkiye at the 20th Mediterranean Games, where distinguished athletes from various countries compete, Tuana Gülenay ranked first in woman’s -78 kg with her outstanding performance. GÜlenay’s success brought pride to Türkiye, BEUN community, and people of Zonguldak.
Tuana Gülenay Won the Gold Medal Leaving its Strong Opponents Behind
Competing successfully throughout the tournament, Tuana Gülenay advanced to the final defeating Ilana Bouvier from France, Zanet Michaelidou from Greek Cypriot Administration of Southern Cyprus, and Arj Agueb from Tunisia. Defeating Metka Lobnik from Slovenia in the finals, Gülenay became champion in the 20th Mediterranean Games. Gülenay took the Turkish flag to the top with her achievement.

“It is a source of happiness for us that National Judoka Tuana Gülenay, a student at the Faculty of Sports Sciences, won the gold medal in woman’s -78 kg category in 20th Mediterranean Games, held in Italy. Her achievement is a strong sign of how young people from Türkiye can succeed on the international arena. It also reflects the qualified educational infrastructure of the Faculty of Sports and our university.
I would like to thank our esteemed Minister of Youth and Sports Dr. Osman Aşkın Bak and its wider community for their valuable contribution to the international success of young athletes and development of sports. I wholeheartedly thank the President of Council of Higher Education Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar and its dedicated staff or their supporting professionals in the field of sports.
I would also like to thank the President of the Turkish Judo Federation Sezer Huysuz, the Federation, and the coaches of the national team for their contribution to the national athletes and their efforts to strengthen Turkish Judo in the international arena.
