
Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University (BEUN) achieved great success rising up to 64th place in the national overall rankings, and 50th place among state universities according to the results of SCImago Institutions Rankings 2026. BEUN demonstrated a significant upward momentum, advancing 17 positions compared to previous years.
“SCImago University Rankings 2026” report which includes universities’ scientific research, innovation capacity, and social impact based on Scopus data evaluated in cooperation with a prestigious ranking institution SCImago Laboratories and Elsevier has been published.
The global report prepared based on scientific research performance, innovation capacity, and social impact, in cooperation with SCImago Laboratories and Elsevier, demonstrated BEUN’s academic success graphic rising in the national and international arena.
Steady Rise in Global Academic Community
In the 2026 report published in accordance with the Scopus data, BEUN strengthened its position in the world rankings.
Taking 2954th place among 4762 universities in 2024,
2975th place among 5051 universities in 2025,
BEUN rose to the 2795th place among 5491 universities. This data demonstrates BEUN’s international visibility and the steady rise in its scientific production capacity.
Advancing 17 Positions in Türkiye Rankings
Being in the 81st place in 2024 and 2025 among universities in Türkiye, BEUN marked a significant success of 17 positions by being in the 64th place in 2026.
Being in the 50th position among state universities, BEUN stood out with its research and scientific research performance.

According to SCImago 2026, BEUN attained significant success in the fields of natural and engineering sciences among universities:
8th place in Physics,
13th place in Mathematics,
18th in Computer Sciences,
21st place in Engineering.

BEUN ranked 3rd in Building and Construction, 6th in Civil Engineering, 6th in Ocean Engineering, 14th in Mechanical Engineering, and 23rd in Architecture.

In his remarks on the topic, BEUN Rector Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Özölçer stated the following highlighting the success attained in the rankings:
“The upward momentum in the SCImago 2026 is a concrete result of the research focused growth vision and quality-based management approach. Advancing 17 positions compared to previous year and reaching up to 50th place among state universities shows clearly that the initiatives taken are in the right direction. In line with our goal to become a research university, we implement a quality-focused transformation in all fields from education and international academic collaboration to research development activities to social contribution projects. We are on our way to being a pioneer university that enhances scientific productivity, strengthens innovation capacity, and transforms its knowledge into social benefit. I would like to express my gratitude to the President of the Council of Higher Education Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar for his support in promoting qualified scientific research and YÖK family.
