“BEUN Faculty of Dentistry Student Symposium” organized by Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University (BEUN) was widely appreciated with its scientific context, specialist speakers, and student-focused vision. At the symposium held at Tahir Karauğuz Conference Hall, academics, doctors, and students came together to mark a significant organization that guides the future in the field of health.
Prospective Dentists Met Science and Technology
In his opening speech of the widely participated program, the Dean of Faculty of Dentistry Prof. Dr. Baran Can Sağlam emphasized that scientific production and professional development start as of the university years and stated that the symposium would contribute to academic vision of the young prospective dentists. During the symposium which focused on recent developments in the field of health, students came together with specialists in the fields from artificial intelligence technologies and public health to dental photography to professional career planning.
From Artificial Intelligence to Dental Photography
During the first session, a faculty member of Department of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery at the BEUN Faculty of Medicine Asst. Prof. Dr. Burçin Acuner talked about the transformation process of health technologies in her presentation titled "Artificial Intelligence Applications in the Field of Health”. The presentation that covered a wide perspective from the history of artificial intelligence to clinical applications was met with great interest by the students.
Following the presentation, a faculty member from the Department of Oral, Dental, and Maxillofacial Radiology at the Faculty of Dentistry, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gediz Geduk informed students about the significance, technical details, and clinical use of photography in dentistry in his presentation titled “Dental Photography”. The students had the opportunity to learn practical tips as well as theoretical knowledge.
Guidance for Young Prospective Doctors in Their Professional Journey
Speaking in the last session of the program, the Chief Physician of Zonguldak Oral and Dental Health Center DDS Emre Erbaycu shared his professional experience in his presentation “Being a Dentist in a Public Hospital”. In his remarks on the responsibilities of dentistry in public health system, career opportunities, and professional development process, Erbaycu gave advice to young students. Question and answer part of the program attracted great interest from the audience while the participants had the chance to communicate one-on-one with the specialists.
Exemplary Organization from Scientific Research Clubs
The evet organized in collaboration with BEUN Faculty of Dentistry Scientific Research Club and Young Dentists Council demonstrated the skills of students in an academic organization. Standing out with scientific share and professional solidarity, the symposium ended with feedback and closing ceremony.
Rector Özölçer: “Strong Future in Health will be Built Through Young People Who Follow Recent Developments Closely”
In his remarks on the subject, BEUN Rector Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Özölçer stated that BEUN supports students’ scientific thinking, research, and production culture and added:
“Dentistry is a field in heath that requires patience, ethical responsibility, love for humanity, and constant development as well as the practical knowledge acquired in classes. As Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University, we care about raising students who can meet the needs of the new age, use technology efficiently, and have a scientific perspective. Student symposiums are significant in terms of providing students with the opportunity to have academic confidence and widen their professional horizons.”
Prof. Dr. Özölçer stated the following on artificial intelligence and digital technologies:
“Today, heath industry is in a transformation. Innovations from artificial intelligence to digital imaging systems increase the quality of health services every day. It is significant for young doctors to follow this transformation closely and develop themselves in the light of scientific developments. I believe our students will contribute to strong future of health industry in our country. With this in mind, I would like to thank those who contributed to the organization of this symposium, all academics and speakers who broaden students’ horizons.”
