The “Technology-Supported Activity Design Training in Mathematics Education” project, supported under the TÜBİTAK 4005 Innovative Education Practices Support Program, has started at Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University (BEUN).
The opening program of the project, held at the Tahir Karauğuz Conference Hall, was attended by BEUN Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Servet Karasu, project coordinator Prof. Dr. İlhan Karataş, academics, trainers, and mathematics teachers from different regions of Türkiye.
362 Teachers Applied, 24 Teachers Selected for the Project
A total of 362 mathematics teachers from across Türkiye applied to the training program, and following the evaluations, 24 primary and 24 substitute participants were selected. Within the scope of the project, 24 mathematics teachers will receive comprehensive training on technology-supported mathematics teaching between August 24 and 28, 2026. Practical studies will be carried out on designing, implementing, and evaluating technology-supported mathematics activities using dynamic mathematics software, Web 2.0 tools, and interactive digital platforms.
Vice Rector Karasu: “Bringing Academic Knowledge Together with Field Experience Is the Key to Transformation in Education”
Speaking at the opening ceremony, BEUN Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Servet Karasu stated that the project brings academic knowledge and teachers’ classroom experience together on the same platform. Emphasizing that transformation in education is possible through strong collaborations that bring academic knowledge and field experience together, Prof. Dr. Karasu noted that the original activities to be developed within the scope of the project will contribute to the future of mathematics education. Prof. Dr. Karasu thanked Prof. Dr. İlhan Karataş, academics, experts, and all participants who contributed to the preparation of the project and wished them a productive training process.
Prof. Dr. Karataş: “Our Aim Is to Turn Technology into an Effective Tool in Mathematics Teaching”
Project coordinator Prof. Dr. İlhan Karataş expressed his pleasure at the strong interest in the program and stated that 24 teachers had been accepted to the project among 362 applicants. Prof. Dr. Karataş explained that the project aims not only to introduce technological tools but also to integrate these tools into mathematics teaching in a way that supports students’ thinking, exploration, and problem-solving skills. He added that teachers will develop original activities at the end of the training. Karataş expressed his gratitude to BEUN Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Ulusoy for his support for the project. Karataş also thanked the TÜBİTAK Directorate of Science and Society, BEUN Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Servet Karasu for attending the program, and all academics, experts, and trainers who contributed to the project.
The Program Will Conclude on Friday, August 28
Throughout the training process, teachers will design their own original mathematics activities and carry out studies aimed at making technology a natural part of mathematics teaching. The original activities to be developed at the end of the project are planned to be made available to teachers and students through the project’s website. The five-day training program will conclude on August 28, 2026.
