Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University (BEUN) hosted a meaningful event in order to promote sustainable life culture and raise environmental awareness among young people. Green Campus Festival, organized with the support of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change and Türkiye Environment Agency, created a strong environmental awareness atmosphere around the campus.
Touring around Türkiye with the slogan “We are on the roads for the environment, we stand by the youth”, Environmental Truck met with BEUN students. The activities organized in front of the Sports Hall at Farabi Campus attracted great attention from students.
During the festival, the contents prepared on a wide spectrum from zero waste and Deposit Management System to recycling and preserving marine ecosystems were shared with the students under the guidance of experts. Thanks to the hands-on activities and experimental areas along with the informative presentations, young people were active participants not just listeners of the sustainable life vision. Thus, environmentally friendly habits are demonstrated through examples.
Recycling glass workshop established at the event area added a special touch to the event. Glass waste was transformed into unique and aesthetic designs with expertise. The fact that personalized products were gifted to the students upon their demands demonstrated that recycling process not only protects the environment but also is a creative process that creates value. The prize wheel and artificial reality experience created a fun and informative atmosphere. Especially the artificial reality experience that focused on the marine ecosystem provided participants with a strong environmental awareness.
At the information stands set up as part of the festival, participants were provided with guidance on the sustainable life habits by Türkiye Environment Agency experts. Active participation of the young people was promoted through competitions and hands-on activities while environmental awareness was aimed.
Rector Özölçer: We Prepare our Students for an Environmentally Aware Future”
Visiting the festival area, BEUN Rector Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Özölçer was informed on the initiatives while touring the Environmental Truck. In his remarks on the subject, Rector Prof. Dr. Özölçer stated the following:
“As Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University we act with an understanding that not only prioritizes academic success; but also takes the environmental awareness and social responsibility as a principle of the institutional identity. Green Campus Festival is a meaningful event that strengthens environmental awareness among young people and brings the sustainable future ideal together with practical applications.
Our main goal is to raise individuals who have the principle to protect the environment, don’t waste resources and are environmentally responsible. We will continue to strengthen our environmentally friendly university model by developing sustainable campus practices. In this respect, I would like to extend my gratitude to the Minister Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change Murat Kurum for his support to hold this event at our Univeristy, President of the Türkiye Environment Agency Nurullah Öztürk and the Türkiye Environment Agency. I would also like to wholeheartedly thank representatives of Green Campus Festival, academic and administrative staff who took part in the event, and our valuable students.”
