Students from the Faculty of Communication at Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University (BEUN) achieved a significant success by earning awards at the “Interuniversity Sensitivity to Intellectual Property – Copyright 2.0 Communication Ideas Competition,” organized for the 15th time this year by the Professional Union of Radio and Television Broadcasters (RATEM). The students successfully represented BEUN by winning awards in two different categories.

Held with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and aimed at raising public awareness of intellectual property rights, the competition was organized this year under the theme “Copyright 2.0: Communication Ideas for Sensitivity to Intellectual Property Rights.” In the competition, which attracted over 800 project applications from universities across Türkiye and witnessed intense competition, the original and creative works of BEUN Faculty of Communication students were highly appreciated by the jury.

Awards in Two Different Categories

As a result of the evaluations conducted by the expert jury members, fourth-year students Sultan Ünlü and Aleyna Nur Yıldırım from the Department of Public Relations and Publicity of the Faculty of Communication were awarded second place in the “Outdoor” category with their project. Meanwhile, second-year student Erdi Başol from the same department achieved third place in the “New Media” category with the project he developed, marking another significant success. Academic supervision and guidance for the award-winning projects were provided by Associate Professor Dr. Zöhre Akyol, Head of the Department of Public Relations and Publicity, along with Associate Professor Dr. Can Cengiz and Associate Professor Dr. Özge Cengiz from the Department of New Media and Communication.

The students crowned their success by receiving their awards at the award ceremony held in Istanbul on Saturday, December 20.

BEUN Rector Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Özölçer shared the following remarks in his evaluation of the students’ achievement:

“The fact that our Faculty of Communication students won awards in two different categories at the RATEM Competition, which is organized on a national scale and holds great importance in its field, is a great source of pride for us. The success achieved by our students through creative, innovative projects that raise social awareness on such a vital issue as intellectual property and copyright rights is a concrete indicator of the quality education provided at our university. I wholeheartedly congratulate our valued students who contributed to this meaningful achievement and sincerely thank our esteemed faculty members who supported our students with their academic guidance.
