Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University (BEUN) once again demonstrated its strong commitment to an accessible and inclusive university vision by achieving significant success in the “Accessible University Awards 2025” organized by the Council of Higher Education (CoHE). BEUN ranked 3rd in Türkiye in the “Accessible University Flags Ranking” and 4th in Türkiye in the “Accessible Program Badge Ranking.”

Flags for 7 Units, Accessibility Badge for 15 Programs

7 academic units consisting of Ereğli Faculty of Education, Teoman Duralı Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Faculty of Science, Faculty of Theology, Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Gökçebey Mithat-Mehmet Çanakcı Vocational School, and Devrek Vocational School were awarded the “Blue Flag” in the “Accessibility in Sociocultural Activities” category.

3 academic units consisting of Teoman Duralı Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, and Graduate School of Health Sciences were awarded the “Green Flag” in the “Accessibility in Education” category.

At the same ceremony, 15 programs including departments of Science Education, Tour Guiding, Chemistry, English Preparatory Program, Preschool Teaching, Mathematics, Pharmacy, Psychological Guidance and Counseling, Fundamental Education, Turkish Language Teaching, Physics, Tourism Management Master’s Program, and Psychological Guidance and Counseling Master’s Program, were awarded the “Accessible Program Badge”.

President of the CoHE, Özvar: “Application is the clearest sign of inclusivity in higher education”

In his speech in the ceremony, President of the CoHE, Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar emphasized that access to fair education is one of the fundamental characteristics of developed countries and stated that higher education is not a privilege, but a social right. Highlighting that accessibility of university campuses for students with disabilities is the fundamental element of equality of opportunity, Özvar stated that accessible university applications are significant in terms of their spatial, educational, and sociocultural aspects. Prof. Dr. Özvar congratulated the rectors of the universities which were awarded and wished them success in their endeavors.

Rector Özölçer: “Accessibility is not a Preference, but a Responsibility”

In his remarks on the achievements, Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Özölçer emphasized the pleasure he had for BEUN’s being awarded for its consistent work and stated the following:

“These rankings we have achieved within the Accessible University Awards is a clear sign of the determination of our university in terms of accessibility and inclusivity. I would like to extend my gratitude particularly to the President of CoHE, Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar, who lead the way to the equality of opportunity across the country and CoHE family. I also wholeheartedly congratulate all the faculties, schools, graduate schools, and programs for their dedicated work. This success is not just an award, but a representation of a university vision that is compatible with human dignity and accessible to everyone.
