
At Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University, a book promotion event titled “Antal Bartus: Türk-Macar Teknik İş Birliğinin Biyografik Portresi” (Antal Bartus: A Biographical Portrait of Turkish-Hungarian Technical Cooperation) was held with the participation of Hungarian Ambassador to Ankara Viktor Mátis.
The program, organized at the Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ali Arslan Conference Hall, was attended by Hungarian Ambassador to Ankara Viktor Mátis, BEUN Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Servet Karasu, Dean of the Teoman Duralı Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences Prof. Dr. Melih Geniş, BEUN Head of the History Department Prof. Dr. Yücel Namal, academics, and students.
The program, which began with the Hungarian National Anthem and the Turkish National Anthem, continued with the opening speech delivered by Prof. Dr. Servet Karasu. In his speech, Karasu emphasized the importance of the historical friendship between the Turkish and Hungarian peoples, stating that the relations between the two countries have a strong foundation not only in political and cultural fields but also in education, science, and technical cooperation. Karasu noted that hosting such a meaningful event within the university’s structure, which grows stronger each day on the basis of science and culture, is an important example of responsibility and loyalty. He particularly emphasized that the Turkish-Hungarian relations that developed during the years of the First World War are among the concrete indicators of the shared destiny between the two nations.
Prof. Dr. Servet Karasu also stated that the promoted work is one of the important studies revealing the cultural, political, economic, and academic dimensions of Türkiye-Hungary relations, and thanked all Hungarian friends who contributed, especially Hungarian Ambassador to Ankara Viktor Mátis. Karasu also expressed his gratitude to the author of the work and Head of the University’s History Department, Prof. Dr. Yücel Namal, for his efforts.
Speaking during the program, Prof. Dr. Yücel Namal shared information about the life and works of Antal Bartus, who is discussed in the book. Namal stated that Bartus undertook important duties during Türkiye’s industrialization process and served particularly as a technical expert during the construction and operation processes of the Çatalağzı Thermal Power Plant. Namal also noted that Bartus contributed to the construction of many ministry buildings in Ankara and stated that his life story constitutes a concrete example of Turkish-Hungarian friendship and technical cooperation. Prof. Dr. Yücel Namal expressed his gratitude to BEUN Rector Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Özölçer for his support for the studies and also thanked Hungarian Ambassador to Ankara Viktor Mátis for his participation in and support of the program.
Delivering the final speech of the program, Hungarian Ambassador to Ankara Viktor Mátis touched upon the historical roots of Turkish-Hungarian relations and the importance of the friendship between the two countries. Ambassador Mátis stated that the Turkish-Hungarian Friendship Park located in Çatalağzı is one of the important symbols of the strong ties between the two countries. He thanked Prof. Dr. Yücel Namal for his work and also expressed his gratitude to BEUN Rector Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Özölçer for his hospitality.
The program concluded with the presentation of certificates and a commemorative photograph session, followed by book distribution held in the foyer area.
