Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University (BEUN) hosted another significant science festival that focuses on people, society, history, language, and literature. “Black Sea Humanities and Social Sciences Symposium 2026” started with strong participation bringing academics, researchers, and students under the roof of learning.

The opening program of the symposium held at Doç. Dr. Ali Arslan Conference Hall on Farabi Campus was attended by BEUN Rector Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Özölçer, Zonguldak Provincial Director of Industry and Technology Metin Vural, Zonguldak Provincial Director of Family and Social Services Mehmet Türkmen Köse, Symposium Coordinator and the Dean of Teoman Duralı Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences Prof. Dr. Melih Geniş, academics, researchers, graduate level students and many guests.

Science, Culture, and Civilization Came Together under One Roof

The program began with a moment of silence for our honorable martyrs and the singing of National Anthem. Afterwards, the musical performance enriched the program. In his speech, the Symposium Coordinator and the Dean of Teoman Duralı Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences Prof. Dr. Melih Geniş highlighted that the symposium will contribute to the scientific collaborations and new academic studies and extended his gratitude particularly to the Rector Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Özölçer and those who contributed to the organization of the event.

Rector Özölçer: “Türkiye Century will Rise with the Young People who can Produce and Think”

In his opening speech, Rector Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Özölçer emphasized that the symposium is not just an academic activity but is a platform which reflects understanding of science, culture, and civilization into the future and added:

“The first of the Black Sea Humanities and Social Sciences Symposium was held in 2024 with great enthusiasm and strong participation. This valuable symposium we organized for the second time has become a distinguished academic tradition which brings the scientists and dedicated researchers of all ages from various fields. I wholeheartedly hope that this tradition will continue to become a prestigious scientific platform leading the scientific, cultural, and intellectual life for many years to come.

The main responsibility of the university should not only be preparing them for their professional lives. It should also aim to raise individuals who can think, question, research, and contribute to humanity. I would also like to state that Türkiye Century will rise with the Turkish youth who transforms information into sustainable production, preserves national values, and works hard. With this in mind, I wholeheartedly congratulate particularly the organization committee, valuable science board and student secretariat who contributed to the organization of the committee. I would also like to thank all scientists, researchers, and valuable guests who participated in the symposium and contributed to enriching the scientific structure.

Opening ceremony concluded following the opening speeches with a commemorative photo shoot. “Black Sea Humanities and Social Sciences Symposium 2026” will continue with academic sessions to be held between 14-16 May.

Sessions will be held until 16th May

As part of the program, papers on various fields such as archaeology, history, sociology, psychology, philosophy, Turkish language and literature, Western languages and literatures will be presented.
Academics coming from various parts of Türkiye, young researchers, and graduate level students will share their up to date researches on humanities and social sciences, develop academic collaborations, and exchange interdisciplinary ideas for three days.
