
Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University (BEUN) cemented its rise in university sports with the success it achieved in taekwondo. A student at BEUN Faculty of Sport Sciences, Efe Haktan Uzun became the champion in 87+kg category in the ÜNİLİG Taekwondo Türkiye Championship, organized by Türkiye University Sports Federation (TÜSF). BEUN Taekwondo Men’s Team ranked third in Türkiye in team competitions.
511 Athletes from 91 Universities Competed for the Same Goal
The organization, hosted by Burdur Mehmet Akif University (MAKÜ) between 19-21 April 2026, witnessed intense competition among athletes across Türkiye. During the championship, which included 245 male and 271 female 516 athletes in total, top level performances created memorable experiences for the audience.
Athletes from BEUN performed successfully in the tournament as a result of their hard work. Efe Haktan Uzun, a student at the Faculty of Sport Sciences, won the gold medal in the 87+kg category. Meanwhile, the BEUN Men’s Taekwondo Team earned the third-place trophy with its successful performance in the team competitions.
Rector Özölçer: “Our Students’ Achievements in Different Sports Are a Source of Pride”
BEUN Rector Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Özölçer stated that these achievements are a great source of pride for the university and expressed the following remarks:
“I sincerely congratulate our esteemed student Efe Haktan Uzun, who brought a national championship to our university in such a prestigious organization, and our Men’s Taekwondo Team, which achieved third place. This success is the finest reflection of disciplined work, belief, and determination. The perseverance and fighting spirit demonstrated by our students have made us extremely proud.
As Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University, we continue to mobilize all our resources to ensure that our students stand out not only with their academic achievements but also with their development in sports, cultural, and social fields.
On this occasion, I would like to express my gratitude to the Minister of Youth and Sports, Dr. Osman Aşkın Bak, and the Ministry for their continuous support of our young athletes; as well as to the President of the Council of Higher Education, Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar, and the esteemed Council of Higher Education for their ongoing support to us and our students.
I would also like to thank Prof. Dr. Mutlu Türkmen, President of the Turkish University Sports Federation and Rector of Bayburt University, for his valuable contributions to the successful organization of the ÜNİLİG Judo Türkiye Championship and for his efforts toward the development of university sports.
