Senior students Hakan İçten and Hamzahan Çarklı, from the Department of Electrical-Electronics Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering, Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University (BEUN), have achieved a siginificant international success with the project they developed in the field of renewable energy. BEUN students were invited to the WindEurope 2026 Conference, which will be held in Madrid, the capital of Spain, between 21 and 23 April, 2026.

The WindEurope Conference, which includes modern technologies, academic studies, and innovative solutions, will be held in Madrid between 21 and 23 April 2026.

The project proposal of BEUN students, accepted by WindEurope, provides an innovative solution to enhance energy efficiency in wind energy systems. Students will share the details of the project titled “AI-Based Selective Wind Turbine Blade Heating System” as a poster presentation. Policy makers contributing to the promotion of wind energy, industry representatives, academics, and researchers will come together in the conference to be held in April. In the project developed by the students, Positive Temperature Coefficient (PTC) film technology, which enables the heating of only specific areas of wind turbine blades where icing risk occurs, is integrated with an artificial intelligence–based control algorithm. Thanks to the system, blade tips or designated sections approaching freezing temperatures are selectively activated, thereby preventing unnecessary energy consumption. This approach significantly reduces the energy consumption of turbines while preventing performance losses caused by icing and enabling uninterrupted system operation.

Rector Özölçer: “We are proud that our students will represent our university on an international platform.”

Commenting on the acceptance of the students from the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering to the WindEurope 2026 Conference, which will be held in Madrid, BEUN Rector Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Özölçer made the following statements:

“This project developed by our students is a highly valuable study that directly contributes to sustainability and energy efficiency in the field of renewable energy. The fact that our students will represent our university on an international platform with this project both makes us proud and fills us with hope. With these thoughts and feelings, I sincerely congratulate our students and wish them outstanding success in their studies and academic lives.”
