As part of its efforts to promote scientific awareness, Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University (BEUN) continues to bring students together with science through “Science Café” meetings. Organized by the BEUN Science Communication Office, “A Journey Inside the Cell” program offered primary school students a journey into the vibrant world of science.

The event carried out by the BEUN Science Communication Office, founded by the BEUN Rector Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Özölçer with the incentives of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK), stood out as an awareness initiative that aims to nurture scientific curiosity among young learners and present science in an enjoyable and accessible way.

BEUN Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Bekir Hakan BAKKAL, Secretary General and the Dean of Faculty of Pharmacy, Prof. Dr. Zehra Safi Öz, school administrators, teachers, and students attended the program organized at Murat Kayahan Primary School in the central district of Zonguldak. Prof. Dr. Bakkal emphasized the importance of meeting teachers and students to support young minds who are interested in science. Highlighting that developing scientific thinking skills at a young age has a big role in shaping the future, Prof. Dr. Bakkal shared the excitement of the students towards science.

A Presentation That Sparked Interest: Students Had a Journey into the Depths of the Cell

The Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Prof. Dr. Zehra Safi Öz, served as the speaker of the event organized by the BEUN Communication Office. Taking students on an interactive journey into the structure and functions of the human cell, Prof. Dr. Safi Öz discussed the cell's organelles, their functions, and the processes within the cell, using colorful visuals and a clear narrative. The presentation was engaging and would spark enthusiasm among students.
Throughout the presentation, the students actively participated by asking questions on the topics that piqued their interest. Noting that sparking interest in science at an early age leads to stronger and more lasting learning, Prof. Dr. Safi Öz stated that the program is more meaningful with the enthusiasm and energy of children.

Prof. Dr. Safi Öz answered the questions of the students. Highlighting the significance of raising scientific awareness at a young age, Prof. Dr. Safi Öz stated:

“It makes us truly happy to see our children’s interest in science. Explaining the complex structure of the cell in a clear way and keeping their curiosity alive is the most precious outcome of such events. I would like to extend my thanks to our Rector Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Özölçer, who contributed to the organization of this event, and the school administration for hosting us, as well as those who contributed to the program. I wish our valuable students success, health, and happiness throughout their school years.”

The event concluded with a joyful group photo attended by students and teachers.
