Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University (BEUN) has achieved another significant success in the international arena. A student at the Department of Physical Education and Sports at the Faculty of Sport Sciences, and a national athlete Sude Nur Basancı achieved a significant success becoming the world champion in the FISU World University Championship Combat Sports, organized in Brasilia, the capital of Brazil.
Basancı Left No Chance for Her Opponents on the Road to the World Championship
Competing in the Muaythai event at the championship, which brought together successful athletes from different countries around the world between 8–13 June 2026, national athlete Sude Nur Basancı defeated her strong opponents one by one on her path to the title. After overcoming competitors from Thailand and Spain to reach the final, Basancı went on to defeat the host nation's athlete from Brazil in the championship bout and claimed the gold medal.
With her outstanding performance in the women's 60-kilogram category, the successful athlete secured the world championship title, bringing great pride to both Türkiye and Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University.
The Turkish University National Team Reached the Top of the World
The Turkish University National Team, which competed in the championship, also achieved a significant success. The crescent-and-star team completed the organization with a total of eight medals, including four gold, one silver, and three bronze medals, and became the world champion in the team standings. In this historic achievement, which once again demonstrated the strength of Turkish sports on the international stage, the gold medal won by BEUN student Sude Nur Basancı played an important role.

Commenting on the achievement, BEUN Rector Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Özölçer congratulated world champion Sude Nur Basancı and stated:
“Our national pride, Sude Nur Basancı, a student in the Department of Physical Education and Sports at our Faculty of Sport Sciences, becoming the world champion in the Muaythai discipline at the FISU World University Combat Sports Championship is a source of happiness and great pride for us. I wholeheartedly congratulate our valuable student, who represented both our country and our university in the best possible way and reached the gold medal in such a prestigious organization where the world's most successful university athletes competed.
This success is the finest outcome of disciplined work, perseverance, determination, and strong belief. At the same time, it is a meaningful result of the importance we attach to sports and athletes at our university, as well as the academic and athletic support we provide to our students. Sude Nur’s world championship is also an important indication of the potential possessed by Turkish sports, university sports, and our young people.
It is also a source of great pride that our Turkish University National Team completed the organization as the world champion in the team standings. I sincerely congratulate all our athletes who proudly carried our nation's flag on the international stage.
