BEUN Takes a Significant Step Toward Sustainable Development with Two New Associate Degree Programs
Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University (BEUN) has taken another significant step in line with its vision for sustainable development. The Council of Higher Education (YÖK) has approved the establishment of two new associate degree programs—Smart Infrastructure Technology and Renewable Energy Technology—within the Zonguldak Vocational School.
These programs were approved following the decisions taken during the “Green Transformation Workshop” held on April 10–11, 2025, under the auspices of the Council of Higher Education. In this workshop, eight new programs were designated to train a qualified workforce in the fields of environmental sustainability, energy transformation, and combating climate change. In this context, BEUN has expanded its educational capacity with two new programs targeting Turkey’s pressing needs in technical infrastructure and renewable energy.
Rector Prof. Dr. Özölçer: “We Will Educate Graduates Who Will Shape a Sustainable Future in the Century of Türkiye”
Commenting on the newly established programs at the Zonguldak Vocational School, BEUN Rector Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Özölçer stated:
“Our university always operates with a vision that considers not only the needs of today but also of tomorrow. These two newly approved programs by the Council of Higher Education represent a valuable gain for our university, our region, and our country. Fields such as smart infrastructure and renewable energy are essential pillars that will shape the professions of the future.
As the first university established during the Republican era, we are proud and honored to contribute to this transformation process through our academic and social efforts toward building a sustainable future, and to offer our students programs that will equip them with the competencies required by our age.
Through these initiatives, we aim to educate qualified technicians who are proficient in eco-friendly technologies and prioritize sustainable development. In line with our university’s principles of being an environmentally conscious, productive, and innovative academic institution, we will continue to work with determination.
With these thoughts, I extend my sincere gratitude to the President of the Council of Higher Education, Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar, and all members of the Council for their support in realizing such a meaningful and visionary step. I also thank all academic and administrative staff who contributed to this process. I wish that the newly opened programs will bring prosperity to our university, our city, and our country, as we move forward toward a green and sustainable future.”
