BEUN Judo Team and Athletes Made Its Mark on the Türkiye Championship

Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University (BEUN) continues its rise in the field of university sports with significant achievements in Judo. National athletes Hatice Vandemir and Ahmet Burak Çuhadar, students at BEUN Faculty of Sports, became the Türkiye champions while Burak İsmail Şengür, Yunus Emre Aktaş, and Fuad İsayev, students of the same faculty, achieved a remarkable success ranking third in the UNILIG Türkiye Judo Championship. BEUN Judo Team achieved a great success ranking third in team sports.

172 Athletes from 36 Universities Competed on Tatami

ÜNİLİG Judo Türkiye Championship, organized by Türkiye University Sports Federation and hosted by Karamanoğlu Mehmetbey University, was held on 18th and 19th April 2026 with great participation. 100 men and 72 women, 172 athletes in total from 36 universities competed in the organization. BEUN Athletes stood out with their discipline, technical superiority, and competitive spirit during the championship. The students of Department of Coaching Education at Faculty of Sports, Hatice Vandemir and Ahmet Burak Çuhadar achieved a gold medal while Burak İsmail Şengür, Yunus Emre Aktaş, and Fuad İsayev achieved the bronze medal with their successful performance. With the third place in the team competitions, BEUN completed the organization with many achievements. These achievements reflected the steady rise in individual and team sports.

Rector Özölçer: “Our Students’ Achievements Reflect the Sports Culture of Our University”

In his remarks on the topic, BEUN Rector Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Özölçer stated that these meaningful achievements are a source of happiness for the university and added:

“I wholeheartedly congratulate Hatice Vandemir, Ahmet Burak Çuhadar, Burak İsmail Şengür, Yunus Emre Aktaş and Fuad İsayev, who represented our university with their rankings. I would also like to congratulate our Judo Team, who ranked 3rd in team competitions. These successes are the finest reflection of disciplined work, determination, and perseverance. The performance our students demonstrated on the tatami has made us extremely proud.

As Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University, we continue to mobilize all our resources to ensure that our students are well developed not only academically but also in sports and social fields. I believe that these valuable achievements will further advance our university’s vision in sports and serve as a precursor to even greater successes in the future.

On this occasion, I would like to express my gratitude to the Minister of Youth and Sports, Dr. Osman Aşkın Bak, and the Ministry for their continuous support of our young athletes; as well as to the President of the Council of Higher Education, Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar, and the esteemed Council of Higher Education for their ongoing support to us and our students.

I would also like to thank Prof. Dr. Mutlu Türkmen, President of the Turkish University Sports Federation and Rector of Bayburt University, for his valuable contributions to the successful organization of the ÜNİLİG Judo Türkiye Championship and for his efforts toward the development of university sports. My thanks also go to Prof. Dr. Mehmet Gavgalı, Rector of Karamanoğlu Mehmetbey University, and the entire university community for hosting the championship.

Finally, I extend my sincere thanks to the distinguished academicians and coaches of our Faculty of Sports Sciences who prepared our students in the best possible way for the competition, and I wish them continued success.
