
Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University (BEUN) hosted a meeting aimed at increasing awareness in the field of intellectual property and strengthening inter-institutional cooperation. Held at Cafe Akademi on the BEUN 15 Temmuz Campus, the meeting focused on preparations for the “Intellectual Property Workshop” planned to be organized in May.
The meeting was attended by Zonguldak Chief Public Prosecutor Gökhan Kapağan, BEUN Rector İsmail Hakkı Özölçer, Vice Rector Servet Karasu, Provincial Director of Industry and Technology Metin Vural, Secretary General of the Western Black Sea Development Agency (BAKKA) Mehmet Çetinkaya, Çaycuma Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Zekai Kamitoğlu, Zonguldak Chamber of Commerce and Industry Vice Chairman Yücel Mercimek, General Manager of Zonguldak Technopark Ferdi Kesikoğlu, along with representatives from Devrek TSO, Ereğli TSO, relevant institutions, and academics.
During the meeting, a presentation was delivered by Şenay Saraç, Head of the BEUN TURKPATENT Consultancy Unit. Discussions focused on the protection and dissemination of industrial property rights and enhancing institutional capacity in this field. Participants emphasized the importance of industrial property within their respective domains and highlighted its potential contribution to regional development.
Additionally, comprehensive planning was conducted regarding the content, target audience, and program flow of the Industrial Property Workshop scheduled for May. A consensus was reached on strengthening inter-institutional coordination and ensuring an effective organizational process.

In his remarks following the meeting, Rector Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Özölçer underlined that “Industrial property holds strategic importance for sustainable economic development and increasing the competitiveness of cities. Effectively utilizing industrial property mechanisms is key to transforming Zonguldak’s academic knowledge and production capacity into high value-added outputs.
BEUN places particular importance on its Office of Industrial Property and continues to carry out comprehensive efforts through its Technology Transfer Office (TTO) and Technopark to raise awareness and enhance the competencies of academics, students, and entrepreneurs.
Finally, increasing both the quantity and quality of industrial property applications—especially patents—is among the university’s top priorities, and stressed the critical importance of strong coordination among all local stakeholders to achieve lasting and impactful outcomes.”
