
Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University (BEUN) Faculty of Sport Sciences student, national athlete, and world and Türkiye champion Sude Nur Basancı made a name for herself for the third time becoming the Türkiye’s Champion in ÜNİLİG Muay Thai Türkiye Championship with an outstanding performance.
In the ÜNİLİG Muay Thai Türkiye Championship, hosted by Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy Univeristy between 14-16 February, and organized by Türkiye University Sports Federation, student of the Department of Physical Education and Sports at Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University Faculty of Sport Sciences, national athlete Sude Nur Basancı achieved another success. In the championship attended by 280 athletes from 61 universities, Basancı became the Türkiye’s champion by winning all 4 competitions in the Elite Women’s 60kg. The athlete demonstrated a steady success by attaining the Türkiye’s Champion title for the third time in the ÜNİLİG Muay Thai Türkiye Championship.
Basancı’s success was also crowned with a team success going beyond the individual success. BEUN team completed the championship proudly by also winning the Best Technical Team Award. Sude Nur Basancı has achieved the right to represent Türkiye and BEUN in 2026 FISU World University Championship Combat Sports, organized in Brazil by International University Sports Federation (FISU).

In her remarks following the championship, successful athlere stated the following:
“I am proud to have become the Türkiye’s Champion for the third time. I have represented BEUN in Muay Thai for three years. I have become the Türkiye’s champion in ÜNİLİG Universities Türkiye Muaythai Championship organized in Burdur, by defending the title this year. I am proud to bring the Türkiye Championship and Best Technical Team Award to our university. I would like to thank our Rector Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Özölçer for his support. I would also like to thank the Muay Thai National Team Trainer Cemal Kocabaş, my esteemed professors, friends, and family.”

“It is a source of pride for us that the pride of our university, valuable student Sude Nur Basancı became the Türkiye’s Champion for the third time in ÜNİLİG Muay Thai Türkiye Championship. This success is a result of hard work, determination and strong academic infrastructure of our university in the field of sports. Winning the best technical team award demonstrates the meaningful results attained when individual success is brought together with the team spirit. I wholeheartedly believe that our student will represent our university and our country in the best way in 2026 FISU World University Championship Combat Sports, to be held in Brazil. I extend my gratitude to the Minister of Youth and Sports Dr. Osman Aşkın Bak, for his support to the young athletes and contributions to their success and the Ministry of Youth and Sports community, the President of YÖK Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar for his support in the development of Faculties of Sport Sciences and Schools of Physical Education and Sports and the YÖK community, and Türkiye University Sports Federation and Türkiye Muay Thai Federation for their contribution to the organization of the championship.
