The conference titled “An Awareness Warning on Financial Security for Youth” was held in cooperation with Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University (BEUN) and Zonguldak Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office.
The conference was held at Doç. Dr. Ali Arslan Conference Hall and attended by BEUN Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Şenol Hakan Kutoğlu, Secretary General Prof. Dr. Zehra Safi Öz, Dean of Teoman Duralı Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences Prof. Dr. Melih Geniş, academics, administrative staff, and students. The speakers on the program were Zonguldak Public Prosecutor Musa Ertuğ and Yeliz Başkan. Prosecutors warned the youth on the current crimes targeting especially young people.
In the presentation, it was emphasized that renting IBANs, enabling use of bank accounts by third parties, and illegal betting activities result in serious legal consequences. Especially illegal betting crimes are evaluated under the law numbered 7258 and result in severe sanctions. The speakers also highlighted that defense such as saying “I only let them use my banking account” does not free one from legal responsibilities; but might lead to accusation of crimes such as money laundering, and even terrorism in case that the proceeds of crime are transferred to terrorist organizations.
During the program it was also stated that such crimes not only result in a fine or prison sentence but might have a significant effect on one’s hiring process in public institutions and private sector. It was also highlighted that young people should not risk their life in the long run with the hope of earning easy money. The speakers stated that people are tricked into investments using the voices and images of famous people making use of the AI technologies. Noting that there are still people who introduce themselves as judges, prosecutors, or public officials and demand payments, the speakers warned the people stating, “No judge, prosecutor, or public official ask for money from citizens”.
Such calls should be reported to the officials.
Questions of the Audience Were Answered
The program continued interactively with the questions from students and attendees and. The topics such as investment offers, crypto money fraud, and bank account safety were discussed extensively.
Presentation of Certificate of Appreciation and a Message for the Students
At the end of the program, the speakers were presented with the certificates of appreciation. BEUN Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Şenol Hakan Kutoğlu, stated that BEUN Rector Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Özölçer has been personally interested in the Psychological Guidance Unit and students can share the problems they encounter with the Departments, Dean’s Office, and Rector’s Office.
