
Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University (BEUN) Devrek Vocational School provided academic contribution to the "SOGEP Anadolu’dakiler- A Breath from the Roots to the Future: Devrek Kiren Project”, which is supported by Western Black Sea Development Agency and carried out by Devrek Municipality.
As part of the project aiming to make Kiren (cranberry)- a significant value to the region- a product that adds value, 20 women trainees who applied to the Family Support Center (ADEM) of the Devrek Social Assisstance and Solidarity Foundation attended the training given by academic staff of Devrek Vocational School.
Multifaceted Educational Support to Women Entrepreneurship
As part of the program, trainees were both given education focused on personal growth and production. Under the title of personal development and digital marketing, trainees were informed about subjects such as digital marketing, e-commerce process, vocational foreign language, and women’s rights.
Practical training was held aimed to transform kiren into various products under the gastronomical production and hygiene title. Trainees were also informed about food safety, hygiene rules, and presentation techniques.
Production at Workshops
The application part of the training was held at the practice kitchens of Devrek Vocational School. Trainees prepared kiren products such as chololate, muffin, cookie, jam, sherbet, desert and ice cream and proved the gastronomical variety of local value.
BEUN Devrek Vocational School contributed to the inclusion of women in the production process by introducing the academic knowledge and application infrastructure with a local development focused project through the cooperation.
In his remarks on the project, the Rector of Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Özölçer stated that university’s initiatives focused on local development will continue.
He also added:
“As Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University, we believe contributing to the social and economical development of the city and region we are in is one of our responsibilities. Such initiatives that promote active participation of women in production process are a significant part of our understanding of sustainable development.
I would like to extend my thanks particularly to the Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih Kacır, BAKKA, and all stakeholders who contributed to the project as part of the SOGEP. We will continue to bring local values together with our academic background and contribute to the region.”
