
Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University (BEUN) is launching a new program aimed at training specialists in the fields of climate change and sustainability. In this context, the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) has approved the establishment of the “Climate Change and Sustainability Master’s Program with Thesis" under the Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences.
Launched in line with the decision of Council of Higher Education Executive Board Meeting held on February 18, 2026, the new program aims to raise specialists in the fields of combating the climate crisis, sustainable development policies, and environment focused scientific studies.
Aiming to contribute academically to the process of climate change that is increasingly felt across the world, environmental sustainability, and green transformation, the program stands out with its interdisciplinary approach, strong academic staff, and up-to-date curriculum. BEUN aims to contribute to the local development and sustainable goals of Türkiye with this initiative.
Rector Özölçer: “We will Raise Specialists to Lead the Green Transformation”
In his remarks on the subject, BEUN Rector Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Özölçer emphasized the visionary approach of the university and stated the following:
“Our university operates in accordance with a vision that includes the responsibility to build the future while shaping today. This master’s program, approved by the Council of Higher Education, is a significant achievement for our university, city, and country. Studies focused on combating climate change, environmental sustainability, and green transformation are among the most crucial and strategic fields that will shape the world. We are proud to contribute to the transformation process with significant academic and social initiatives and provide students with programs that will meet the needs of the time. We aim to raise individuals who have a hold of the environmentally friendly technologies, prioritize sustainable development, and can transform scientific information into social contribution. Thanks to our programs, which are established in line with the quality-focused and sustainability centered educational approach while formed in accordance with the social and economic necessities, our students will be specialists who will contribute to the sustainable transformation on the national and international fields.
