Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University (BEUN) has taken another significant step to strengthen its academic structure with the approval od the Council of Higher Educaton (YÖK) for the 2026-2027 Academic Year. BEUN is advancing its goal of training qualified human resources in both vocational education and social sciences through the establishment of two new programs and three academic departments in different fields.
New programs aligned with the needs of the era in vocational education
Within the scope of new programs approved by YÖK, the Office Technologies and Data Management Program has been established at Devrek Vocational School, and the Water and Waste Management Technician Program has been opened at Çaycuma Food and Agriculture Vocational School. These programs aim to equip students with the skills required by today’s business world.
These programs will directly contribute to meeting the need for intermediate staff specialized in priority areas of the era such as digitalization, data management, and sustainable environmental policies.
Philosophy Department strengthened with new academic disciplines
BEUN’s advancement in the field of social sciences also draws attention. Within the Philosophy Department of the Teoman Duralı Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, the History of Philosophy Department, Systematic Philosophy and Logic Department, and Turkish-Islamic Thought History Department have been established, expanding the academic scope of the department. Thus, students will receive a more comprehensive education in both classical and contemporary fields of thought.
A strong academic infrastructure from education to employment
With the newly opened programs and departments, BEUN aims to strengthen its interdisciplinary education approach and provide students with a more comprehensive and multi-dimensional learning environment. BEUN stands out with an education model that is not only theoretical but also practice-oriented, aligned with industry needs, and responsive to the requirements of the era.
Rector Özölçer: “We continue to train well-equipped individuals for the future”
In his remarks on the newly opened programs and departments, BEUN Rector İsmail Hakkı Özölçer stated:
“We continue our efforts to strengthen the capacity of our university in undergraduate and associate degree fields, to provide our students with new opportunities in line with the requirements of the era, and to train qualified human resources needed by our country.
We place importance not only on technical and vocational fields but also on building a strong academic structure in humanities and social sciences. With the Philosophy Department’s first student intake in the 2025–2026 Academic Year and the newly established departments, we are further enhancing our academic strength in this field. Through our new programs, we aim to establish a solid foundation in both vocational education and social sciences, supporting our students’ holistic development.
In this regard, I extend my gratitude to the President of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK), Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar, and the entire YÖK family for their valuable support in the establishment of these programs and departments. I also sincerely thank all our academic and administrative staff who contributed to this process. I hope these new programs will be beneficial to our university, our city, and our country.”
