Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University (BEUN) Hospital successfully implemented minimally invasive (closed) cardiac surgery, elevating its technological capacity and surgical expertise in healthcare services.
Closed Cardiac Surgery with High Technology at BEUN Hospital
One of the most innovative and modern technological methods of the modern surgery, minimally invasive cardiac surgery was performed by Asst. Prof. Dr. Oğuz Arslantürk and Asst. Prof. Dr. Yavuz Arslanoğlu, faculty members of Department of Cardiovascular Surgery at BEUN Hospital using high-tech camera and imaging systems.
Minimally invasive techniques, which are increasingly preferred worldwide, are performed at limited number of domestic and international advanced cardiac surgery centers. Performing this modern surgical approach, BEUN Hospital demonstrated its capacity to serve the public on international standards.
Instead of 20-25cm-long incision applied on the sternum in a classical cardiac surgery, 4-6cm-long incisions were safely made for the same surgical procedure at the operations. With this method, closed coronary bypass operation was completed successfully on a patient with a congenital heart disease- a hole in the heart.
Less Pain, Faster Recovery, Better Comfort
Minimally invasive cardiac surgery provides patients with some opportunities such as less pain, less blood loss and infection risk. When the sternum is untouched at the operations, patients can resume their daily activities following the operation. This modern surgical approach both increases the patient’s comfort and makes the treatment faster and safer. With the minimally invasive cardiac surgery, BEUN Hospital crossed another threshold in health services in terms of qualifications and technological equipment.
