
A student in the Faculty of Sport Sciences at Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University (BEUN) and the national Judoist Ejder Toktay achieved a great success in the Qingdao Grand Prix 2025, organized in Qingdao, People’s Republic of China. Toktay, who competed for the Türkiye Judo National Team in the Men's 73 kg category, represented BEUN and Türkiye on international platforms, winning a bronze medal.
Ejder Toktay, who drew attention with the medal he won at the event in Qingdao, which featured distinguished athletes from around the world, reaped the rewards of his disciplined training and determined struggle by stepping onto the podium.

BEUN Rector, Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Özölçer, congratulated Toktay in his talk on the success of the national athlete and stated:
“We are always proud of the success our students achieve in the sports field. Our valuable student who competed for the Türkiye Judo National Team in the competition held in Qingdao, People’s Republic of China, continues to make our name heard in the international arena with the bronze medal he won. The success of all our athlete students shows clearly how well-rounded, disciplined, and determined our students are.
Our university contributes to the success our students achieve in the international competitions with its strong infrastructure, qualified educational programs, and academic staff who are well-rounded and experienced in all branches of sports. In this respect, the Faculty of Sport Sciences is a significant career center for the development of young talents. Our students who achieved significant ratings in various sports branches, like Ejder Toktay, who has achieved this success, are great examples of this. The success they achieved is a source of motivation not just for athletes but for all students.
In this spirit, I would like to thank particularly Minister of Youth and Sports, Dr. Osman Aşkın, who contributed to the success of the young athletes with his continuous support and Ministry of Youth and Sports family as well as the President of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK), Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar who supports the development of Faculty of Sport Sciences, and Turkish Judo Federation that contributed to the organizartion of this championship. I would also like to thank Batuhan Efemgil, an undergraduate of the BEUN Department of Physical Education and Sports Teaching, a non-thesis Master’s program graduate of the Department of Physical Education and Sport at the Graduate school of Health Sciences, as well as a trainer in the Turkish Judo Federation National Team, for his support of our students.
I wholeheartedly congratulate Ejder Toktayu, who won the bronze medal in the Men’s 73 kg category, and thank his professors who contributed to his education at BEUN. I wish continuous success for our valuable student and believe that he will add value to the international visibility of our university.”
